ELDOWAS expands sewer connections to three Eldoret areas

The Eldoret Water and Sanitation Company (ELDOWAS) is stepping up efforts to expand sewerage services in Eldoret, with property owners in Sugunanga, Annex and Jamboni invited to apply for connections under its Last Mile Connectivity Programme.
The initiative will bring the utility’s teams closer to residents through scheduled visits aimed at explaining application requirements and helping property owners begin the process of connecting their premises to the sewer network.
In a public notice dated October 26, 2026, ELDOWAS said its team would visit Sukunanga Centre on November 4, Annex Centre on November 5 and Jamboni Centre on November 6 to guide applicants and facilitate applications.
Property owners are required to present a copy of their national identity card or passport, a Kenya Revenue Authority PIN certificate, proof of land ownership and two copies of a sketch showing the location of their property.
Residents seeking assistance can visit the company’s Southern Area Office along Kisumu Road, next to the Reformed Church and opposite Hill School, or call 0736310009.
The latest campaign builds on broader sewerage expansion work undertaken in Eldoret to improve wastewater collection and management as the town grows.
Under the Last Mile Connectivity Sewerage Project, implemented through the Kenya Towns Sustainable Water Supply and Sanitation Programme with support from the African Development Bank, infrastructure works have included the construction of approximately 45.9 kilometres of new sewer lines and rehabilitation of about 1.35 kilometres of existing pipelines.
The project has also involved improvements at wastewater treatment facilities, including the replacement of recirculation pumps at Quarry Wastewater Treatment Plant and rehabilitation and automation works at Boundary Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Areas identified as beneficiaries of the wider infrastructure improvements include Kipkaren, Langas, Munyaka, Kapsoya and Elgon View. These investments are intended to extend sewerage services and improve the management of wastewater generated by households and businesses.
Additional construction works were also advertised in 2025 for the Eldoret town sewerage project. The planned scope included 8.6 kilometres of sewer pipelines and the construction of 150 manholes, demonstrating the continued need to extend and strengthen the network.
ELDOWAS operates wastewater treatment plants at Huruma and Kipkanyo and is responsible for collecting, treating and safely disposing of wastewater within Eldoret and its surrounding service areas.
Expanding sewer connections is important for communities because it provides an alternative to individual wastewater disposal systems where a functional public network is available. Properly managed sewerage can help reduce the risk of wastewater entering drainage channels and other parts of the environment, while supporting cleaner neighbourhoods.
However, the benefits depend on households and institutions connecting to the network, using the system correctly and ensuring that wastewater is conveyed to treatment facilities.
The latest outreach in Sugunanga, Annex and Jamboni therefore provides property owners with an opportunity to understand the connection process and take the necessary steps towards joining the sewer network.
As Eldoret continues to expand, extending sewerage infrastructure and increasing household connections will remain important in supporting sanitation, protecting the environment and improving the management of wastewater across the town.
