The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) has deployed technical teams to carry out emergency repairs along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline following faults affecting the bulk water transmission system.

NCWSC said its Workshop and Transmission teams are working around the clock to repair the affected sections of the pipeline and restore normal water supply to areas dependent on the network.

The Sasumua-Kabete pipeline is a key component of Nairobi’s bulk water supply system, transporting raw water from Sasumua Dam in Nyandarua County to the Kabete Water Treatment Works. The water is treated at the facility before being distributed to consumers across parts of the capital.

In a public update, NCWSC confirmed that its technical personnel were already on site undertaking the emergency works.

“Our Workshop & Transmission Team is on-site working around the clock to complete emergency repairs along the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline,” the utility said.

The repair exercise involves addressing faults along the main transmission line and stabilising affected sections of the infrastructure. Engineers are also expected to replace damaged or worn components and undertake technical checks to ensure the pipeline can safely resume normal operations.

The system handles bulk water under high pressure, NCWSC must conduct mechanical adjustments and controlled testing before restoring full water flow. The utility said normal supply would resume once the repair works are successfully completed.

The emergency intervention has resulted in temporary adjustments to water supply in parts of Nairobi served through the Kabete distribution network, affecting both households and businesses that depend on the system.

NCWSC acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruption and appealed to affected consumers for patience as its teams work to complete the repairs.

The incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and rapid response in protecting Nairobi’s bulk water infrastructure. Transmission pipelines linking major water sources to treatment and distribution facilities remain critical to maintaining reliable water services in the capital.

NCWSC said it will restore normal operations once the affected pipeline sections have been repaired, tested and safely returned to service.
